- Detroitโs Tarik Skubal opens as the AL Cy Young favorite.
- Pittsburghโs Paul Skenes begins as the NL Cy Young favorite.
Starting pitchers might have lost some importance in this new era of baseball, but there is still something special about watching the best pitchers take the mound every handful of days.
In 2024, those pitchers were Tarik Skubal of the Detroit Tigers and Chris Sale of the Atlanta Braves. It marked the first Cy Young award for both pitchers.
MLB betting odds for the 2025 Cy Young market are now available at the BetMGM online sportsbook.
AL Cy Young Odds: Favorites
Player | Team | Odds |
---|---|---|
Tarik Skubal | Tigers | +300 |
Gerrit Cole | Yankees | +600 |
Logan Gilbert | Mariners | +700 |
Garrett Crochet | Red Sox | +700 |
Cole Ragans | Royals | +1000 |
Framber Valdez | Astros | +1400 |
Max Fried | Yankees | +1600 |
Luis Castillo | Mariners | +1800 |
George Kirby | Mariners | +2000 |
Jacob deGrom | Rangers | +2000 |
Skubal starts as the betting favorite (+300) to win the AL Cy Young award in 2025 after leading this market for much of 2024.
Skubal was BetMGM’s most significant liability in this market last year. He received 14.6% of bets and 21.7% of the handle.
That proved to be the right call by bettors. Skubal was the front-runner for much of the season, trading as a minus-odds favorite by the All-Star break.
Skubal finished with an 18-4 record and a 2.39 ERA in his Cy Young campaign. He struck out 228 batters across 192 innings in 31 starts.
Of the players further down the board, Texas Rangers pitcher Jacob deGrom (+2000) stands out as the best value in the opening market.
Prediction: Jacob deGrom (+2000)
NL Cy Young Odds: Favorites
Player | Team | Odds |
---|---|---|
Paul Skenes | Pirates | +400 |
Zach Wheeler | Phillies | +400 |
Chris Sale | Braves | +500 |
Hunter Greene | Reds | +1000 |
Yoshinobu Yamamoto | Dodgers | +1400 |
Blake Snell | Dodgers | +1800 |
Logan Webb | Giants | +1800 |
Michael King | Padres | +2000 |
Shota Imanaga | Cubs | +2500 |
Tyler Glasnow | Dodgers | +2500 |
Pirates pitcher Paul Skenes begins as the betting favorite (+400) to win the NL Cy Young after a remarkable rookie season. He finished third in voting last year and already has some of the best stuff in baseball.
But this market didnโt go according to plan in 2024. Spencer Strider started as a +425 favorite to win the NL Cy Young award, but a different Atlanta pitcher claimed the honor.
Sale won his first Cy Young award in his age-35 season. He went 18-3 with a 2.38 ERA in 29 starts. He struck out 225 batters in 177 2/3 innings of work.
Sale was a 30/1 long shot to win the award entering the 2024 MLB season.
Of the long shots, I like the odds on San Diegoโs Michael King (+2000) at this point in the offseason.
Prediction: Michael King (+2000)

Fernando Valenzuela is the only rookie to win the Cy Young.
