Best bet: Gerrit Cole Under 5.5 Strikeouts (-125)
Based on the latest baseball playoff odds, my favorite wager is a strikeout prop involving Yankees starter Gerrit Cole.
Cole won the first Cy Young award of his career in 2023, but injuries limited his 2024 season to 17 starts. He hasn’t been the same pitcher this season, posting a 3.41 ERA and 99 strikeouts in 95 innings.
In fact, Cole has posted 9.4 strikeouts per nine innings this year. It’s the lowest mark since 2017 and well below his career average of 10.4 strikeouts per nine innings.
Cole finished with four strikeouts in seven innings against the Kansas City Royals in Game 4 of the ALDS. Like the Royals, the Guardians aren’t a team that whiffs much. They ranked 26th in strikeout rate (20.2%) this year.
THE BAT X projects 4.8 strikeouts for Cole on Tuesday, so I’m betting his under on 5.5 whiffs at -130 or better.
