Seven different college basketball programs have won back-to-back national championships: Oklahoma State, Kentucky, San Francisco, Cincinnati, UCLA, Duke, Florida, and UConn.

Repeat NCAA Basketball Champions

  • Oklahoma State: 1945-56
  • Kentucky: 1948-49
  • San Francisco: 1955-56
  • Cincinnati: 1961-62
  • UCLA: 1964-65, 1967-1973
  • Duke: 1991-92
  • Florida: 2006-07
  • UConn: 2023-24

Last Back-to-Back NCAA Basketball Champions

The UConn Huskies have officially gone back-to-back in 2023 and 2024 under the leadership of head coach Dan Hurley. It’s the first time since the 2000s that a men’s program has won two national championships in a row.
UCLA is the only program to accomplish the feat multiple times. The Bruins – who own the most national championships ever – won consecutive titles in 1964 and 1965 and again from 1967-73.
Several teams have nearly won the NCAA Tournament in back-to-back years. Most recently, Kentucky won in 1996, lost the title game in 1997, and won in 1998.

Has Any College Basketball Team Won Three National Championships In a Row?

Yes, but it’s been a long time. Since the NCAA took over stewardship of the college basketball national championship process in 1939, only one program has won three in a row: the celebrated UCLA dynasty of the 1970s.

Under John Wooden, the UCLA Bruins men’s basketball won every national championship from 1967-73.

This wasn’t just a three-peat. It was a seven-peat.

Perhaps that’s why we all know Wooden’s name, 50 years removed from the height of his team’s power.
