Only two No. 14 seeds have ever made it past the first week of the tournament: 1985-86 Cleveland State and 1996-97 Chattanooga.

Even Chattanooga’s run in 1997 almost never happened. The Mocs held on to beat Marshall in overtime, 71-70, in the championship round of the SoCon tournament.

With the automatic bid narrowly secured, Chattanooga went on to beat No. 3 seed Georgia and No. 6 seed Illinois en route to the Sweet 16. It was eventually eliminated by No. 10 seed Providence.

High water marks for other NCAA Tournament seeds: No. 10 Seed | No. 11 Seed | No. 12 Seed | No. 13 Seed | No. 15 Seed | No. 16 Seed
