Farthest a 14-Seed Has Gone in March Madness

Only two No. 14 seeds have ever made it to the Sweet 16: Cleveland State in 1986 and Chattanooga in 1997.

Even Chattanoogaโ€™s run in 1997 almost never happened. The Mocs held on to beat Marshall in overtime, 71-70, in the championship round of the SoCon tournament.ย 

With the automatic bid narrowly secured, Chattanooga went on to beat No. 3 seed Georgia and No. 6 seed Illinois en route to the Sweet 16. It was eventually eliminated by No. 10 seed Providence.
