The 49ers lost a Week 7 home game to the Kansas City Chiefs, dropping Kyle Shanahan’s squad to 3-4 this season.
The 2024 season isn’t faring much better for Dallas, which sits at 3-3 this season. As underdogs, Dallas is 1-2 SU and ATS.

49ers vs. Cowboys Prediction
Based on San Francisco’s injuries and the historically profitable spot for Dallas, my 49ers vs. Cowboys prediction is the Cowboys Spread (+5.5, -110).
This sets up as a terrible spot for the 49ers.
Not only are the 49ers coming off a straight up loss, but they’re playing a second consecutive game against a team coming off their bye week.
They’ll do so without both Christian McCaffrey and Brandon Aiyuk, who Kyle Shanahan said after the Chiefs game is worried to have suffered a torn ACL.
While the Dallas defense leaves so much to be desired, San Francisco’s defense is simultaneously worrisome.
The 49ers sit 13th in defensive EPA per play and 20th in defensive success rate, including 25th and 22nd against the run.
While Dallas has struggled to establish the run this season, they’ve faced some strong defenses. Of their six opponents, four rank 15th or better in rushing EPA per play.
Dallas has also improved running the ball recently. After posting a 58.2 rushing grade in the first two weeks, Dallas has recorded a 64.3 rushing grade in the last four, per PFF.
If Dallas can effectively run the ball and shorten the game, it gives them a great chance to cover a big number.
History also likes the Cowboys in this spot, too.
Since 2003, dogs playing a non-neutral site contest in games 2-8 are 54-15-2 ATS (78.2%), assuming two factors:
- The underdog’s previous game margin falls between -45 and -20
- The favorite is on a one-game losing streak
As a result, I’ll take Dallas above two key numbers in primetime against the 49ers.
