Darius Slay was “this close” to signing with the Baltimore Ravens this offseason.
โI was almost โ this close โ a Baltimore Raven,โ Slay said on his podcast this week. โI was this close. This close.”
“But I wanted to be an Eagle, I stayed an Eagle, because I know me and [Eagles’ general manager Howie Roseman] were going to figure something out. But the Baltimore Ravens were the first team that called, and they offered just what I wanted, and I just said, if the Eagles do that, Iโm going to stay an Eagle. It was nice. I almost was a Raven.โ
The five-time Pro Bowl corner was granted permission by the Philadelphia Eagles in early March to seek a trade ahead of his final contract year. If a trade wasn’t made, Slay would be released, which would save the Eagles approximately $17.5 million in 2023.
Neither happened; the Eagles instead signed Slay to a new contract that runs through 2025.
Darius Slay Contract
Slay signed a three-year, $42-million with $24.5 million guaranteed at signing.
In 2023, he’s due a base salary of $1,165,000 and has a cap hit of $11,813,000 million.
Slay’s dead cap hit is approximately $35.1 million next year and $24.1 million in 2025.
