In a league with no salary cap, thereโ€™s no telling what a singular talent like Patrick Mahomes would make. It might be over $100 million per year.

In a capped league, though, Mahomes and the Kansas City front office have a delicate dance to manage.ย

On the one hand, both parties want Mahomes to be appropriately paid for his work, which includes being the face of one of the most popular teams in the league.

On the other hand, a maximalist approach to his salary degrades the front officeโ€™s ability to build a competitive team. And while the Chiefsโ€™ odds arenโ€™t going to be near the bottom of the NFL any time soon, Kansas Cityโ€™s inability to build effective depth at positions like receiver and tackle are directly tied to a handful of huge salaries.ย

As is his usual custom, Mahomes agreed to convert $47.75M of 2025 compensation into signing bonus, which created $38.196 million in cap room for this year.ย

Patrick Mahomes Contract

Patrick Mahomes is technically under contract with Kansas City through 2031 on a maximalist deal worth $450 million.

That said, Mahomesโ€™ restructured deal effectively ends his current status with the Chiefs after 2026, as both parties agree to revisit the contract.

Mahomes has a no-trade clause.

Patrick Mahomes Salary

Patrick Mahomes will earn $23.95 million from his contract with the Chiefs in 2025. The vast majority of that ($21.7 million) is restructured salary that was converted to give the team additional cap mobility.

Mahomes will now earn $1.255 million in base salary and $1 million as a workout bonus.ย

Over the course of his contract, Mahomesโ€™ average annual salary is $45 million.
