Geno Smith was drafted with the 39th overall pick by the Jets in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft.ย
During most years, that means that a handful of quarterbacks would have already gone off the board. However, in 2013, the only quarterback to be drafted ahead of Geno Smith was EJ Manuel, who went No. 16 overall to Buffalo.
Smith was anticipated to be drafted in the first round, but he was still available at the end of the night.ย
The 2013 NFL Draft is infamous for its bad quarterback class. Only three quarterbacks were drafted in the entire first two days of the Draft โ Manuel, Smith, and NC State quarterback Mike Glennon in the third round.
Eventually, there was a small run on quarterbacks in the fourth round, with Matt Barkley, Ryan Nassib, Tyler Wilson, and Landry Jones all going in the first 18 picks of the fourth round. Four more went in the seventh round.ย
It was clear that few teams were willing to use top draft capital on any of the 2013 quarterbacks.
How Many Teams Has Geno Smith Played For?

After Smithโs rookie deal expired with the Jets in 2016, he played one season with the New York Giants in 2017. He then swapped coasts, joining the Chargers roster in 2018.
Smith signed with Seattle in 2019.
