The Philadelphia Flyers had the best puck line record of the 2022-23 NHL season, but they weren’t the only team reliably covering the spread. The Arizona Coyotes, Buffalo Sabres, and Seattle Kraken tied for the second-to-best record against the spread, having each covered in 57.3% of their games, while the Ottawa Senators and Edmonton Oilers weren’t far behind them.

The Calgary Flames had the worst record against the spread in 2022-23, having only covered in 37.8% of their games for an ROI of -25.7%.

Here are some notes on the best NHL teams to bet on last season, along with full ATS records:

1. Philadelphia Flyers

ATS Record: 48-34

They may not have made it through to the playoffs, but during the 2022-23 season, the Flyers had the league’s best ATS record, having covered in 58.5% of their games (48-34) for an ROI of 4.4%.

The Flyers fared better as underdogs than favorites, going 42-25 ATS for an ROI of 4% as underdogs versus 6-9 as favorites. Their ATS record at home was identical to that on the road — they went 24-17 ATS in each setting, though their ROI as visitors (5%) was slightly higher than when they were at home (3.8%).

2. Arizona Coyotes

ATS Record: 47-35

The Coyotes ended the 2022-23 season with the sixth-to-worst record in the NHL, but they went 47-35 against the puck line for an ROI of 5.5%. Their ATS record was the second-best in the league, covering in 57.3% of their games to tie with the Sabres and Kraken.

When they were underdogs, the Coyotes went 45-30 ATS for an ROI of 8.7%, while they only went 2-5 for an ROI of -28.6% when they were favorites. Their ATS record at home was very close to their record on the road (24-17 at home versus 23-18 as visitors), and their ROI as visitors was only slightly higher than that at home (5.8% as visitors versus 5.2% at home).

3. Buffalo Sabres

ATS Record: 47-35

The Sabres tied the Coyotes and Kraken as the second-to-best NHL team to bet on for puck lines, going 47-35 ATS for an ROI of 0.8% during the 2022-23 season.

As underdogs, the Sabres went 37-21 against the puck line for an unfortunate 0% ROI, but only 10-14 as favorites (2.7% ROI). They covered the spread a lot more as visitors than at home — 28-13 ATS for a 19.7% ROI as visitors, versus 19-22 for an ROI of -18.2% at home.

4. Seattle Kraken

ATS Record: 47-35

The Kraken impressed everyone in the 2022-23 playoffs by eliminating the reigning-champion Colorado Avalanche in the first round, and they were also one of the best ATS bets of the NHL regular season. Seattle covered the spread in 57.3% of their games (47-35) for an ROI of 7.8%, tying the Coyotes and Sabres for the second-best ATS record in the league.

Seattle fared better against the puck line as underdogs (26-16) than favorites (21-19) in 2022-23, but their ROI was much higher as favorites (21.6% versus -5.5%). On the road, they went 25-16 ATS for an ROI of 10.4%, but at home, their record was closer — 22-19 for an ROI of 5.2%.
