- Matt Kuchar is one of the best wedge players on the PGA Tour.
- Some of the top players are not always the best wedge players
Over the last few years, golf has trended toward distance and hitting the ball far, sometimes eliminating the importance of wedge play.
For instance, the more times a player goes for the green in two on a par-5 the fewer times a wedge is needed. Therefore, the majority of the top wedge players are some of the shorter hitters on Tour.
Here are the best wedge players on the PGA Tour:
Best Wedge Players on the PGA Tour
Matt Kuchar
According to Fantasy National, in 2024, Kuchar was No. 1 on the PGA Tour in proximity to the hole from 75-100 yards and then No. 5 from 100-125 yards.
Kuchar is one of three players to rank inside the top 10 for both metrics.
Cam Davis
Davis is another player to rank inside the top 10 for both metrics.
Davis was No. 2 for proximity to the hole from 100-125 yards and No. 10 from 75-100 yards.
Hideki Matsuyama
Matsuyama is the best player on this list.
Like Kuchar and Davis, he ranks inside the top 10 for both. He was seventh from 75-100 yards and eighth from 100-125 yards.
Justin Thomas
While Thomas was 186th from 75-100 yards, he was third from 100-125 yards.
The 186th is likely a fluke, as he has some of the best hands on Tour and is fantastic with his wedges.
Tom Hoge
Hoge is one of theย best iron players on the PGA Tour, as well as one of the best wedge players.
He ranked 11th from 100-125 yards and 15th from 75-100 yards.
