A Monday qualifier on the PGA Tour is a one-day event held on the Monday before a PGA Tour tournament, where professional golfers and amateurs compete for a limited number of spots in that week’s official tournament.
These qualifiers give golfers who do not already have a spot in the tournament a chance to compete.
The structure of a Monday Qualifier usually involves a full round of 18 holes, and the top finishers (usually the top three or four players, depending on the tournament) earn a spot in the PGA Tour event for that week. Since the competition is open to anyone eligible, it’s an opportunity for lesser-known players or those trying to break into the PGA Tour to compete against the best.
When Do Monday Qualifiers End?
Beginning in 2026, seven PGA Tour events are losing their Monday qualifiers. These are tournaments with 144- or 132-man fields that will all be reduced to 120 starting in 2026. A field of 120 means there are no spots for Monday qualifiers.
Has a Monday Qualifier Ever Won a PGA Tour Event?
Since 1980, there have been five golfers who got into a PGA Tour event through Monday qualifying and then won that tournament.
Those players are:
- Corey Conners, 2019 Valero Texas Open
- Arjun Atwal, 2010 Wyndham Championship
- Fred Wadsworth, 1986 Southern Open
- Kenny Knox, 1986 The Honda Classic
- Jeff Mitchell, 1980 Phoenix Open
