Tom Watson’s 62 at Pinehurst No. 2 back in 1973 at the World Open still remains the course record.

Players at this week’s U.S. Open will look to challenge that, but conditions are expected to be extremely difficult.

It is a par-70 originally designed by Donald Ross but underwent a renovation in 2010, led by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw.

Lowest U.S. Open Round

The lowest U.S. Open round ever recorded is a 62.

Xander Schauffele and Rickie Fowler shot 62 in the first round of the 2023 U.S. Open at Los Angeles Country Club.

Prior to that, it was 63, done by six players: Johnny Miller (1973), Jack Nicklaus (1980), Tom Weiskopf (1980), Vijay Singh (2003), Justin Thomas (2017) and Tommy Fleetwood (2018).
