Islam Makhachev (25-1) left no doubt against Alexander Volkanovski (26-3) in their UFC lightweight title rematch in the main event of UFC 294 this weekend after knocking him out in the first round via head kick to retain his championship belt and continue his winning streak to 13. The Dagestani champion removed any hopes that Volkanovski could defy the UFC odds on days’ notice and pull off a massive upset.

It was Makhachev’s second title defense since winning the 155-pound title in October 2022 against Charles Oliveira. Because of the flawless performance, he also received an additional $50,000 bonus as one of the Performance of the Night honors. During his post-fight interview, the 31-year-old stated that he doesn’t care who he fights next as long as the UFC gives him another challenger.
Aside from Makhachev, three other fighters secured a $50,000 bonus for their incredible performances as Ikram Aliskerov, Said Nurmagomedov, and Muhammad Mokaev scored stoppage wins over their opponents to further increase their payouts. Aliskerov TKO’ed Warlley Alves, Nurmagomedov submitted Muin Gafurov, and Mokaev also submitted Tim Elliot.
