  • Seattle made splash signings after last year's 11-29 campaign.
  • The Storm are +1000 to win the WNBA championship.

The Seattle Storm hope to contend with the WNBA’s two superteams after landing Skylar Diggins-Smith and Nneka Ogwumike in the offseason to join forces with Jewell Loyd.

With its big three leading the way, Seattle has the third-best championship odds via the online sportsbook entering the 2024 season.

But what are reasonable expectations for a Storm squad that won 11 games last year?

Storm Futures Odds

Win total: 24.5
To make playoffs: -10000
To miss playoffs: +1600
Championship odds: +1000

Seattle went 11-29 last year after Breanna Stewart left to join the New York Liberty. Loyd led the way with an average of 24.7 points per game.

But one year of rebuilding was enough for the Storm, who spent more than $400,000 in combined salaries to land Ogwumike and Diggins-Smith.

This franchise has won two championships since 2018 and has +1000 preseason odds to return to the mountaintop.

Storm 2024 Betting Prediction

Prediction: Lynx +10.5 at Storm in Game 1

Overall, I don’t see any value in Seattle’s preseason odds.

The win total seems fair, and this is likely the third-best team in the league by the end of the season.

But it’s hard not to think about last year’s Liberty squad when evaluating the Storm.

New York formed its own big three last offseason, but then went through some growing pains. The Liberty started slow, including losing to the Washington Mystics in the opener, before eventually making it to the WNBA Finals.

Seattle could experience a similar path in 2024. I’d suggest fading this team early in the year before buying a dip in any championship odds.

Specifically, I’m taking the points (+10.5) with the Minnesota Lynx in the WNBA season opener odds ahead of that matchup on May 14.

The current line is about three points higher than my projected spread, meaning +10 or better is worth a bet.
