The last college football national championship won by an ACC team came at the end of the 2018 season.
Dabo Swinneyโs Clemson era peaked in the latter half of the 2010s when the Tigers dueled Alabama for national championships.
The two programs traded the championship trophy back and forth, with Clemson claiming the title in 2016 and 2018.
ACC National Championship History (College Football)
Historically, the ACC has always been more of a basketball conference, but it does break through with strong programs and performances from time to time. Swinneyโs run at Clemson is a good example, as was Jimbo Fisherโs time in Tallahassee.
Before that, the best answer would be Bobby Bowdenโs dynastic run at Florida State. The Seminoles were a top 10 mainstay that won their most recent national championship in 1999, during the early days of the BCS system.
FSU also won an AP national championship in 1993.
Some fans may remember the Miami Hurricanesโ national titles in 1989 and 2001, but those teams were still members of the Big East,
