SEC National Championship History (College Football)
In the modern era, the top of the SEC has generally been college football’s best.
The Southeastern Conference has been on an amazing run since 2006, when Florida won the national championship in the heart of the BCS era.
Since, the SEC has won 13 total national championships, far more than any other conference.
The Big Ten has denied the SEC in recent years. But it’s only the second time since ’06 the SEC has failed to claim either title in a two-year window.
The other was 2013-14, when Florida State and Ohio State won the last BCS championship and the first College Football Playoff, respectively.
The SEC’s success in the modern era has mainly been split among five programs. Nick Saban’s Alabama dynasty won six of the conference’s 13 titles; Florida (2), Georgia (2), LSU (2), and Auburn (1).
