- Yankees' Aaron Judge is the betting favorite to win AL MVP.
- Dodgers' Shohei Ohtani is the NL MVP favorite.
- Judge and Ohtani won MVP in their respective leagues in 2024.
For the second year in a row, MLB had two unanimous MVP selections.
New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge secured his second American League MVP award, while Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani earned the National League honor.
This follows the 2023 season, when Ohtani (AL) and Ronald Acuรฑa Jr. (NL) were both unanimous MVPs โ the first time that had happened since MVP voting began in 1931.
Will the unanimous streak continue this season? Here’s a look at the latest MLB odds and predictions for the 2025 MVP race:
AL MVP Odds 2025: Aaron Judge Leads Favorites
Player | Team | Odds |
---|---|---|
Aaron Judge | Yankees | -180 |
Bobby Witt Jr. | Royals | +500 |
Gunnar Henderson | Orioles | +1300 |
Mike Trout | Angels | +1800 |
Julio Rodrรญguez | Mariners | +1800 |
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. | Blue Jays | +2000 |
Josรฉ Ramรญrez | Guardians | +2500 |
Corey Seager | Rangers | +2500 |
Yordan Alvarez | Astros | +3000 |
Adley Rutschman | Orioles | +3000 |
Wyatt Langford | Rangers | +4000 |
Jarren Duran | Red Sox | +5000 |
Riley Greene | Tigers | +5000 |
Logan O'Hoppe | Angels | +5000 |
Alex Bregman | Red Sox | +6000 |
New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge is already a minus-odds favorite (-180) to win American League MVP in 2025 after entering the year with a +300 value. That price adjustment came after he slugged four home runs during the opening weekend against the Milwaukee Brewers, including three in a 20-9 victory.
While much of the buzz of the opening weekend came from the Yankees’ torpedo bats, it should be noted that Judge is using his same bat. He’s just that much of a power hitter, which is why he grabbed an early lead in the longest home runs this season.
Basically, Judge remains the best hitter on the planet after an otherworldly MVP campaign last summer.
In 2024, Judge dominated offensively, leading all of baseball in home runs (58), RBIs (144), on-base percentage (.458), slugging percentage (.701), OPS (1.159), and walks (133). With his second MVP trophy โ following his first in 2022 โ he became the seventh Yankee in history to win multiple MVP awards.
While Judge is the deserving favorite, it’s too early in the season to be paying minus odds on anyone winning an individual award. That could create value further down the board.
Kansas City Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr., last yearโs AL MVP runner-up, is a strong contender and his odds are more enticing after entering the season with a +300 value.
However, I remain interested in backing Julio Rodrรญguez ever since I suggested taking his 40/1 odds when this market opened on Jan. 14.
Recent MVP winners have typically led the league in WAR, and most projections favor Rodrรญguez in that metric as someone who can make an impact with his bat and glove. OOPSY currently projects Rodrรญguez to finish with the third-best WAR in the AL, suggesting value in his current odds at 18/1.
Prediction: Julio Rodrรญguez (+1800)
NL MVP Odds 2025: Shohei Ohtani Paces Favorites
Player | Team | Odds |
---|---|---|
Shohei Ohtani | Dodgers | +105 |
Juan Soto | Mets | +550 |
Fernando Tatis Jr. | Padres | +700 |
Kyle Tucker | Cubs | +1000 |
Elly De La Cruz | Reds | +1200 |
Mookie Betts | Dodgers | +1500 |
Bryce Harper | Phillies | +1600 |
Corbin Carroll | Diamondbacks | +2000 |
Jackson Merrill | Padres | +2500 |
Francisco Lindor | Mets | +3000 |
Pete Alonso | Mets | +3000 |
Jackson Chourio | Brewers | +3500 |
Ronald Acuรฑa Jr. | Braves | +5000 |
Freddie Freeman | Dodgers | +5000 |
Ketel Marte | Diamondbacks | +5000 |
If Shohei Ohtani can win MVP in a season where he doesnโt pitch, what chance does anyone have once he returns as a two-way force?
Thatโs the key question after Ohtaniโs debut season with the Dodgers shattered expectations โ especially for oddsmakers. He opened the year at +900 to win MVP, trailing Mookie Betts and Ronald Acuรฑa Jr., yet still emerged as the clear winner.
Ohtani has made a habit of defying logic. He became the first player ever to join the 50-50 club, launching 54 home runs and stealing 59 bases in 2024, just months after signing his record-breaking 10-year, $700 million contract.
He also became the first full-time designated hitter to win MVP and joined an elite group of players to win the award in both leagues. Heโs the first back-to-back MVP winner since Miguel Cabrera (2012-13) and now holds three MVP trophies.
With his return to the mound in 2025, Ohtani is the clear betting favorite (+105) as heโs poised to generate even more WAR as a two-way player.
Itโs tough to bet against him, but Iโm still intrigued by the +2000 value on Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Corbin Carroll.
Carroll was a trendy preseason MVP pick last year after finishing fifth in the 2023 NL MVP race. However, a slow start derailed his campaign, and he finished with a 3.4 WAR โ down from 5.4 the year prior.
Still, Carrollโs speed remains a weapon, with 89 stolen bases over the past two seasons. If he can find his rhythm at the plate early, he has a real shot to re-enter the MVP conversation in 2025.
Prediction: Corbin Carroll (+2000)

Fred Lynn and Ichiro Suzuki are only rookies to win MVP.
Lynn did it first, winning AL MVP in 1975 after guiding the Boston Red Sox to 95 regular-season wins and an appearance in the World Series. Ichiro won AL MVP in 2001 as the Seattle Mariners tied the MLB record for most wins in a season (116).
