  • Houston is a -145 moneyline favorite for Tuesday’s Game 1.

The Houston Astros will host the Detroit Tigers in a surprising best-of-three American League Wild Card series.

Houston (88-73) got off to a slow start in the spring before putting things together during the summer to claim the No. 3 seed as the AL West champion. The Astros have made it to at least the ALCS in each of the past seven seasons.

The Tigers (86-76) were the hottest team in baseball down the stretch, posting MLB’s best record since July 1. The Tigers notched their first postseason berth since 2014.

Here is a look at the latest MLB odds for the Astros vs. Tigers matchup and a best bet for Tuesday’s Game 1:

MLB Playoff Odds – Astros vs. Tigers

  • Tigers moneyline: +120 (opened +110)
  • Over/Under: 6.5 (Over -105/Under -115)

Astros vs. Tigers Prediction, Game 1 Best Bet

Best bet: Astros to win Game 1 & Series (+100)

Bettors could take the -145 value on Houston to win Tuesday’s opener, but exploring the futures market might yield more value. The latest MLB betting lines have a +100 price for the Astros to win Game 1 and the series.

Tarik Skubal, the AL Cy Young odds favorite all season, will get the ball in Game 1. If the Tigers can’t win his start, they could be in trouble against a team with the playoff reputation of the Astros.

But they might just be in trouble in this matchup. Houston has been as hot (if not hotter) than Detroit this summer. No AL team has a better record than the Astros since April 27.

Framber Valdez, who will start for Houston in the opener, has been a crucial part of the team’s second-half surge. He’s throwing his curveball more, posting a 1.96 ERA in 12 starts since the All-Star break.

That’s not great news for a Tigers’ offense that has relied on timely hitting during their recent run. Detroit ranks 24th in the league in on-base percentage (.300) since the break.

PECOTA gives the Astros a 75.6% chance of winning this series. At this point, we can probably just pencil them into the ALCS.
