The Athletics plan to start Luis Severino in Game 1 after signing him to the most lucrative deal (three-year, $67 million) in franchise history. It marks his second career Opening Day start after getting the ball for the New York Yankees in the 2018 opener.
Mariners righty Logan Gilbert will get the nod on Opening Day for the first time in his career.

Athletics vs. Mariners Prediction for Opening Day
According to the current MLB odds, I prefer to target the under (7) on the game total as my favorite Athletics vs. Mariners prediction for Opening Day.
Earlier this offseason, Mike Petriello explained for MLB.com why T-Mobile Park suppressed offense by 11% in 2024. Seattle hitters ranked 30th in batting average at home.
The Athletics will play their home games in Sutter Health Park this year, which could boost their offense. But starting the 2025 campaign against this pitching staff in Seattle will be a tough test.
Gilbert enters the year as a potential Cy Young candidate after finishing sixth in voting last season. He’s my favorite value prediction to be MLB’s strikeout leader (+2000) after ranking fifth in the majors with a 22.8% K-BB rate.
Severino should also get off to a strong start this season after posting a 3.91 ERA in 31 starts last year.
This is a great pitching matchup to close out Opening Day.
