  • There have been no MLB managerial firings so far in 2024.
  • White Sox’s Pedro Grifol tops the list of managers who could be fired.

The 2024 MLB season is well underway. However, not every team is basking in the summer sun of success.

While most of the league remains in the mix via the latest baseball playoff odds, a few teams are on track to lose 98-plus games. That could mean change is coming for those franchises.

No manager has been fired yet in 2024, but here are a few candidates who could ultimately leave town this year:

MLB Managers on the Hot Seat

Pedro Grifol, Chicago White Sox

The White Sox lost 101 games under Pedro Grifol during his first season in 2023. Things have only worsened this year, with Chicago on track for a historically bad campaign and well over 100 defeats.

In fairness to Grifol, this roster isn’t good enough to compete in a surprisingly competitive American League Central division. The White Sox signaled that when they traded away Dylan Cease before the season, and it’s why their best players are the top targets ahead of this year’s trade deadline.

Regardless, it’s safe to say Grifol’s days are numbered in Chicago.

Bud Black, Colorado Rockies

Finding success in Colorado is difficult.

The Rockies have never won their division. They haven’t finished higher than fifth in the NL West since 2021, and they haven’t won a playoff game since 2009.

Even with that context, Bud Black’s resume is uninspiring. He’s been the team’s manager since 2019, but has yet to win more than 71 games in a season or finish higher than fourth in the division.

Skip Schumaker, Miami Marlins

The 2023 NL Manager of the Year could be on his way out this summer. That could prove to be best for both Skip Schumaker and the Marlins.

Schumaker, who has already been mentioned as a potential candidate for the White Sox next year, guided the Marlins to an 88-74 record and a postseason berth last year.

However, the 2024 season has been a reality check, with Miami on pace to flirt with triple-digit losses after starting 0-9 to begin the year.
