However, MLB odds force some ballclubs to face reality. And the betting lines for opening day help show everyone how teams will fare heading into the new season.
Here’s a look at the updated baseball odds for the first set of games, starting with a matchup between the Chicago Cubs and Los Angeles Dodgers in Tokyo on March 18 before a 15-game opening day slate on March 27.

MLB Opening Day Picks & Predictions: Thursday, March 27
While there will inevitably be some rainouts, all 30 teams will be in action for MLB’s opening day on Thursday, March 27. Check out my favorite moneyline predictions for the first full day of the 2025 regular season.
Angels ML (-135) vs. White Sox
Fading the White Sox proved to be a good strategy last year. In fact, I bet the Tigers’ moneyline (-125) against the White Sox as my favorite for opening day in 2024.
Chicago set the modern record for most regular-season losses, finishing 41-121 in 2024. The White Sox accomplished that feat while having one of the top aces in baseball, Garrett Crochet, who was traded to the Boston Red Sox this offseason.
There is a world where Chicago is nearly as bad as last season, while the Angels took steps this offseason to ensure they’d improve after a 99-loss campaign. The Angels rank in the top 10 in MLB payroll after some notable moves, including the signing of Yusei Kikuchi as their top pitcher.
I expect the market to back the Angels in this one, so I’m happy to take this price before it’s too late.
