The 68-team NCAA Tournament field is built using a variety of metrics, chief among them the NET rankings. And not only are the rankings themselves used heavily by the selection committee, metrics and quadrant records built upon the NET rankings are also critical components.

NET strength of schedule (SOS), for example, has been referenced by the committee chair since the NET was introduced in 2018.
