Before missing the 2023 NCAA Tournament, North Carolina last missed the tournament in 2010.

From 2011-22, UNC made 11 straight NCAA Tournaments, which was fourth-longest active streak for consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances until this year.

North Carolina improved its final record in 2010 by accepting a bid to the National Invitational Tournament (NIT), which is the second-tier tournament that features teams that aren’t a part of March Madness.

In the NIT, the Tar Heels beat William & Mary, Mississippi State, UAB and Rhode Island before ultimately losing to Dayton, 79-68, in the championship game. They finished 20-17.
