For the 2025 NFL season, Gardner Minshew will serve as the backup quarterback for the Chiefs. 

Minshew arrives in Kansas City after a stint in Las Vegas last season. There, he made nine starts for Kansas City’s AFC West rival, posting a 2-7 SU & 3-6 ATS record. 

This year marks the fourth season in a row that Minshew plays for a new team. His biggest success in the league came in 2023 with the Colts, which finished 7-6 in Minshew’s starts. 

That season marked the first time since 2019 that Minshew started at least 10 games for a team. In 2018, Minshew guided the Jaguars to a 6-6 record in his 12 starts.

Where Minshew has previously excelled is when he closes a market favorite. Albeit in a limited sample size, Minshew posted an 8-6 ATS record in those spots. 

As a market underdog, Minshew started strong but has struggled of late. In his rookie season, Minshew finished 5-3 ATS as a dog with Jacksonville. 

Since that season, Minshew recorded a 7-17 ATS record as a market dog. 

Gardner Minshew Contract Information

Minshew signed a one-year deal with Kansas City this past offseason. At a base salary of $1.17 million, Minshew counts 0.4% against Kansas City’s cap space next year. 

It’s a notable decrease from Minshew’s last two contracts. Last year, Las Vegas paid the signal caller $15.48 million, with Indianapolis paying $5.5 million in 2023.

In his 46 career starts, Minshew completed 1094 passes on 1729 attempts for 11950 yards. 

His touchdown-to-interception ratio in six seasons is 68 touchdowns to 34 interceptions. His career high for touchdown passes came in 2018 (21). 

Minshew struggled to avoid turnovers in his last two seasons. Of his 34 interceptions, 19 came in the previous two campaigns.
