Defensive tackle Chris Jones has been in Kansas City for eight years. That time includes a four-year rookie contract worth $6.23 million and signed in 2016, as well as a four-year extension (bridged by the franchise tag) worth $80 million and signed in July 2020.
Heading into the 2023 season, Jones was looking for a multi-year extension that would both keep him inked in Kansas City for longer, but also pay him the updated premium that his performance suggests he deserves.
Jones has said many times over the last two years that he wants to be a lifelong member of the Chiefs. He was finally rewarded in March 2024 with a huge extension worth more than $150 million.

On March 9, 2024, Chris Jones signed a five-year contract extension worth $158.75 million. The deal is heavily backloaded, giving the Chiefs’ some cap room relief up front in 2024.

Chris Jones will draw a base salary of just $1.25 million for the 2024 season. That number jumps to $13.75 million in 2025 and escalates to $35 million in 2028, the final year of the current deal.
Over the life of the contract, his average annual salary is $31.75 million.

Chris Jones was guaranteed $60 million at signing, which is totaled from his signing bonus, his 2024 salary, his 2025 salary, and his 2025 roster bonus.
