Based on the Bengals’ difficult start to the season and unknowns surrounding the defense, I predict bettors should look for a live betting opportunity.
For the Bengals to reverse their fortunes from last season, the defense simply needs to play better.
That’s a big ask for a team that, on paper, takes a step forward in competition.
Last season, Cincinnati ranked 27th in defensive DVOA against the third-easiest set of offenses, per ftnfantasy.com.
Based on 2024 DVOA ratings, the Bengals play the league’s 14th-hardest schedule of opposing offenses.
Most of that is concentrated in two matchups against Baltimore, a historically good offense (35.1%). However, the schedule also features other tough games against good offenses.
The Bengals face three further games against teams that finished fourth or better in offensive DVOA last season.
Two of those games come before Week 5 with the third – at Buffalo – sandwiched in between two games against Baltimore, one of which is a short-week road game.
Helping Cincinnati’s cause in 2025 is that the schedule balances out with a number of games against perceived bad teams.
Cincinnati plays 11 games against teams projected to finish under 9 wins. However, only three of those games come against teams perceived to win six or fewer.
The first six weeks of the season will tell bettors a lot about the Bengals.
