Cam Ward of Miami is the NFL Draft odds favorite to be taken with the first overall pick at -225. He certainly has the talent to be the first player off the board, but some others will surely be considered as well.
The Tennessee Titans have the first overall pick in this year’s draft. Although they did give young signal caller Will Levis the starting role last year, it’s conceivable they want an upgrade, so having the chance to draft that QB of the future with the first pick may be an opportunity that’s too good to pass up.
It’s also not impossible the Titans are targeting a quarterback who’s not Ward. Here’s my rankings of the best QBs in this year’s draft class.
Top QB In The NFL Draft
Cam Ward is the best quarterback in the 2025 NFL Draft class.
There’s really no reason to overthink this. He was a Heisman finalist and won the Davey O’Brien Award, which goes to the best quarterback in the country. He was also a consensus first-team All-American and the ACC Player of the Year in 2024, his lone season at Miami.
Last year, he threw for 4,313 yards, 39 touchdowns, and seven interceptions on a 67.2% completion rate. He also ran for 204 yards and four touchdowns on 60 carries.
He transferred to Miami from Washington State. In two years with the Cougars, he totaled 6,963 yards, 48 touchdowns, and 16 interceptions through the air while completing 65.5% of his throws to go with 13 TDs on the ground.
Before that, he was a star at Incarnate Word. He was a finalist for the Walter Payton Award, which goes to the best player in the FCS, as well as an All-American and the Southland Offensive Player of the Year. In 2021, he led UIW to a conference title and a 10-3 overall record while throwing for 4,648 yards, 47 touchdowns, and 10 picks while completing 65.1% of his attempts.
Ward is an aggressive passer, and he has the best arm in the class. He won’t gain a ton of yards on the ground in the NFL, but his mobility will help him, as he’ll create more time to find open receivers when the pocket breaks down.
If he ends up in the right situation with a coaching staff that knows how to properly develop quarterbacks – Brian Daboll and the Giants stand out among the teams picking early – then Ward could be a solid starter for years to come.
