Multiple NHL teams in the West are looking to contend for the Stanley Cup, while others are just looking to qualify for the playoffs.
Here’s what the playoff picture would look like if it ended today.

- Dallas Stars vs. Edmonton Oilers
- Winnipeg Jets vs. Colorado Avalanche
- Los Angeles Kings vs. Seattle Kraken
It hasn’t been the brightest stretch for the Dallas Stars, who still manage to lead the Central Division by one point over the Winnipeg Jets. The Stars have been struggling, posting a 3-2-5 record over their last ten games. They’ve still picked up loser points but have lost seven of their last 10 games. The Stars would line up with the Edmonton Oilers if the playoffs kicked off today, which would be interesting considering both of their strengths.
The Colorado Avalanche and Winnipeg Jets are also on a collision course, with the Avs having picked up points in eight of their last 10 games to land in their Central Division’s third position.
The Pacific Division is much closer, with the Los Angeles Kings and Vegas Golden Knights playing some solid hockey over the last week. The Golden Knights have a 5-2-3 record over their last 10 games, but they dropped a 3-2 shootout against the Chicago Blackhawks yesterday. Meanwhile, the Kings are 7-2-1 over their previous 10, losing 2-1 to the Minnesota Wild Tuesday night.

The NHL regular season concludes on April 13, 2023. The Stanley Cup playoffs will likely begin on April 15, 2023, with no current dates.
