  • Why the Baltimore Ravens will cover a six-point teaser in Kansas City.
  • Three divisional underdogs I predict will cover a six-point teaser.
  • I predict the Pittsburgh Steelers cover a teaser in Atlanta.

Amongst the countless Week 1 NFL odds markets at the BetMGM online sportsbook, one option for bettors is a teaser.ย

Largely popular amongst recreational bettors, a teaser allows bettors to move multiple lines in their favor with varying payouts depending on the total legs.ย

NFL Betting Predictions: Best Week 1 Teaser Legs

Best NFL Week 1 Teaser Leg No. 1: Ravens +9 at Chiefs

Iโ€™m unsure if the Ravens win outright, but Iโ€™m very confident that the game is competitive.ย

Working in Baltimoreโ€™s favor from a spread standpoint: John Harbaugh is brilliant as an underdog. Heโ€™s 46-31-3 ATS (59.7%) for his career, including 12-1 with Lamar Jackson.ย

Irrespective of quarterback, the Ravens are 81% against a six-point teaser with Harbaugh at the helm. In 13 games as an underdog, Jackson is 13-0 against a six-point teaser.ย

Only seven points separated these teams in the AFC Championship. Donโ€™t expect the Ravens to make the same mistake twice and try to pass, leading to a closer contest.ย

Best NFL Week 1 Teaser Leg No. 2: Raiders +9.5 at Chargers

I outlined the case for Las Vegas +3.5 in my NFL Week 1 Predictions, and Iโ€™m not afraid to double down with a teaser.ย

Bettors have seen Antonio Pierce take the Raiders on the road and cover a teaser.ย

Itโ€™s a limited sample, but the Raiders are 3-0 against a six-point teaser as road dogs under Pierce.ย

Plus, past Raiders-Chargers games have proved close affairs. Only two of the last eight meetings have seen either team win by more than 10.ย

Even if the Vegas offense struggles, their defense is going to keep them in this game and limit points from Los Angeles.ย

Best NFL Week 1 Teaser Leg No. 3: Panthers +10 at Saints

Iโ€™m also backing the Panthers spread in my NFL Week 1 Predictions. For this teaser, Iโ€™m doing a bit of betting calculus.ย

This game is tied with Falcons-Steelers and Bengals-Patriots for the lowest over/under on the board. That triggers a historically profitable system for Carolina.ย

Road divisional dogs with a closing total between 36.5 and 43.5 are 58.9% ATS, assuming theyโ€™re priced between +1 and +6.5.ย

Those dogs are 77% against a six-point teaser and 78% against a teaser when priced between +3.5 and +6.5.ย

Plus, fading Saints quarterback Derek Carr via a teaser works wonders when heโ€™s a favorite. In 60 starts as a favorite, Carrโ€™s opponents are 51-9 against a six-point teaser.ย

Best NFL Week 1 Teaser Leg No. 4: Colts +8.5 vs. Texans

The high total for this game could lead to a wide range of outcomes. However, Iโ€™ll be shocked if Houston covers a teaser as road favorites.ย

Indianapolis finished 2-0 against this number last year against Houston. In Week 2 โ€” when both teams were close to full health โ€” Indianapolis not only covered but won outright.ย

Even in Week 18 with Gardner Minshew at quarterback, Indianapolis fell by only four points.ย

While the Colts finished 4-5 ATS at home last year, they went 7-2 against a six-point tease.ย

Best NFL Week 1 Teaser Leg No. 5: Steelers +9 at Falcons

If there werenโ€™t so many unknowns surrounding Atlanta, the Steelers would place higher.ย

Mike Tomlin is 64.8% ATS as an underdog for his career. Heโ€™s also 69-20 (78%) against a six-point teaser.ย

Hereโ€™s the kicker: when Tomlin is a dog against a team that missed the playoffs, heโ€™s 23-13 ATS and 27-8 against a six-point teaser.ย

Even if Kirk Cousins is fully healthy, the Steelers defense will present loads of problems for Atlanta.ย

Accordingly, this game should be decided either way within a single score.ย

Whatโ€™s a Teaser Bet & How Do They Work?ย

In a teaser bet, bettors select two or more markets in which theyโ€™d like to adjust the line. The most common adjustment is six points, though BetMGM allows players to move lines by any amount between six and 14 points.ย

However, bettors pay a premium to move the line through key numbers. In the NFL, these numbers are three, six, seven, 10, 14 and 17.ย

In a two-team, six-point teaser, bettors have to lay -130. In a three-team, six-point teaser, the price rises to +160.ย

Bettors can include as many legs as they want. But remember, all legs have to cash for the whole bet to win, making teasers with more teams inherently riskier.ย

With teasers, bettors should remember two things.ย

First, always tease through the key numbers. Second, never tease through zero.ย

My other recommendation is to focus on home teams. Some handicappers will utilize road teams in a teaser, but Iโ€™ve found visitors experience more volatile results.ย

Bettors should learn the BetMGM house rules associated with teasers pushing. If a leg pushes in a teaser with three or more legs, the leg is removed, and the odds are recalculated.ย

In a two-team teaser, if one leg pushes, the entire bet pushes and bettors are refunded their stake.
