There is no question that 2024 was a season to forget in the Bay Area. 

San Francisco regressed six wins a year after reaching the Super Bowl. However, it should not go ignored that significant injury issues help explain that decline. 

No team lost more adjusted games to injury than the 49ers, per ftnfantasy.com. 

At 141.2 adjusted games lost, San Francisco outpaced second by as big a gap as the gap between second and eighth! 

For context, the 49ers lost the fourth-fewest adjusted games to injury in 2023. That helped them lead the NFL in offensive DVOA while sitting fourth in defensive DVOA. 

What should not go ignored about last season is San Francisco’s resilience in spite of that adversity.

The way I see it, the only path to San Francisco not threatening this win total is another injury-ravaged season.

Lastly, I like taking over 10.5 wins due to the public’s overwhelming belief that San Francisco will produce another weak season in 2025.

That certainty gives me some extra confidence in the 49ers, who cleared their win total in two of the last three seasons.
