Let the Juan Soto sweepstakes begin.

The 26-year-old outfielder leads the best MLB free agent rankings as the coveted prize during the 2025 offseason. He turned down a $440 million contract from the Washington Nationals in 2022 and has since been traded twice, playing for the San Diego Padres in 2023 and New York Yankees in 2024.

Soto could sign a record-setting contract this winter, but which team will have the honor of landing him for 2025?ย

A new MLB odds market at the BetMGM online sportsbook (only in Ontario) helps shed some insight.ย

The Yankees opened as MLB betting favorites at -120 to bring Soto back next year, but the New York Mets are strong contenders with their +150 odds to sign him this offseason.

Juan Soto Next Team Prediction: Where Will Star Outfielder Play in 2025?

While the Yankees are -120 betting favorites to bring back Soto, I predict that the star outfielder will sign with the Mets to cash a +150 ticket this offseason and establish the National League runner-up as legitimate World Series odds contenders for years to come.

Based on the latest MLB betting lines and most early offseason content, the Soto sweepstakes might be a two-horse race. Itโ€™s just a matter of which team will keep Soto in New York.

As a result, it only makes sense to take the team with plus-money odds to land Soto.

With Pete Alonso coming off the books, this was always the offseason that the Mets planned to be aggressive in free agency. The Mets rank 11th in MLB teams with the highest payrolls after leading that list for the 2024 campaign, suggesting they have plenty of wiggle room to offer a massive contract.

It also helps that the Mets made a surprise run to the NLCS before losing to the Los Angeles Dodgers. They have a better understanding of what moves they need to make to get over the hump to win their first World Series since 1986.

David Stearns had a successful debut season as the president of baseball operations for the Mets after eight years with the Milwaukee Brewers. He helped New York improve on the margins with low-risk moves that paid off, but now is the time to take a big swing by landing Soto this offseason.

Prediction: Mets (+150)

Juan Soto Projected Contract

According to MLB Trade Rumors, Soto is projected to sign a 13-year, $600 million contract this offseason. It is expected to be one of the more significant contracts signed in MLB history.

For comparison, Shohei Ohtani signed a 10-year, $700 million contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers last offseason.

Bryce Harper signed a 13-year, $330 million contract with the Philadelphia Phillies entering his age-26 season in 2019.

Soto made $31 million in his lone season with the Yankees after being traded from the Padres.
