The Washington Commanders are the most recent NFL franchise to be sold.

In 2023, the sale of the Washington Commanders was led by Josh Harris of the Harris-Blitzer group. It was most expensive franchise sale in both NFL and United States sports history.

Dan Snyder, the former controversial owner of the team since 1999, sold the Commanders for $6.05 billion to a group that also included Magic Johnson. Harris-Blitzer Sports and Entertainment also owns the New Jersey Devils and Philadelphia 76ers.

Previously, the Walton-Penner groupโ€™s 2022 acquisition of the Denver Broncos was the most expensive deal. Rob Walton, a Walmart heir, paid $4.65 billion for the club.
