Houston Astros 2025 Preview: MLB Odds & Prediction

For the first time since 2016, the Houston Astros didn’t reach the ALCS when they suffered a 2-0 series loss to the Detroit Tigers in the American League wild-card round.

The Astros hope their 88-73 campaign was a blip, not a sign their reign is over.

Here’s a look at the latest MLB betting lines and my prediction for the Astros ahead of the 2025 season:

The Astros’ playoff odds are down compared to recent seasons. They have plus-money odds to win the division and a win total in the 80s for the first time since 2021.

According to RosterResource, the Astros will have a different roster from last year’s team.

Houston traded away outfielder Kyle Tucker to the Chicago Cubs, bringing in third baseman Isaac Paredes. The Astros also signed first baseman Christian Walker.

In addition, Houston lost starter Yusei Kikuchi in free agency and has yet to re-sign Alex Bregman.

Astros Player to Watch in 2025

With Tucker gone and Bregman still a free agent, Yordan Alvarez is unquestionably Houston’s best player entering 2025.

Alvarez played in a career-high 147 games last season, hitting .308 with 35 home runs and an OPS+ of 172. He has now hit 30-plus home runs in four straight seasons, which is why his home run prop for this year is 33.5 at BetMGM:

• Under 33.5 home runs (-105)

Alvarez has cleared this mark in two of his previous three seasons.

Astros 2025 Betting Prediction

Based on the updated MLB betting market, I predict the Astros will finish in the top two of the AL West along with the Texas Rangers (+135) during the 2025 season. This futures bet is available in the dual forecast market at the BetMGM online sportsbook.

The division figures to be competitive this year, but I expect Houston and Texas to finish above the rest.

PECOTA projects the Rangers to win the AL West, while the Astros are forecasted to finish in second place.

Houston has won the division in seven of the past eight years. The Astros have finished first or second every year since 2015.

While the Astros might take a step back this summer, this roster is still too talented to finish below second place in 2025.

I like getting a plus-money price on them to maintain their recent form.
