The Seattle Mariners have missed the postseason in consecutive campaigns after snapping a 21-year playoff drought in 2022.

Last year’s 85-77 season was especially heartbreaking for the Mariners, who finished one game back of a wild-card spot. Had the Mariners not blown an eight-run lead to the Kansas City Royals on June 7, they would have played in October.

This season might be a buy-low spot on the Mariners, considering how close they were in 2024.

Seattle is +3000 to win the World Series after being +2000 last preseason. The team’s win total has dropped four games from 2024, which was the first time since 2019 that the Mariners finished below their preseason over/under.

In fact, the Mariners haven’t had a total this low since winning 90 games in 2021 to clear a low mark of 72.5.

According to RosterResource, the Mariners are expected to have a similar team to the one they used for much of last year.

Seattle is counting on better offensive results and its rotation to remain elite in 2025.

Mariners Player to Watch in 2025

Fresh off the first All-Star nod of his career, Logan Gilbert will continue leading one of baseball’s best rotations this year.

The Mariners’ rotation led MLB in ERA (3.38), innings (942.2), and quality starts (92) in 2024. Gilbert emerged as the top starter on a stellar staff, finishing sixth in the AL Cy Young race.

Gilbert enters 2025 with the fifth-best price in the AL Cy Young odds race at +1100. He’s +3500 to be the regular-season strikeout leader and has an over/under of 196.5 strikeouts.

For what it’s worth, OOPSY projects Gilbert to record 214 strikeouts in 2025.

Mariners 2025 Betting Prediction

According to the initial MLB odds, my first awards future for 2025 was a 40/1 flier on Seattle’s Julio Rodríguez to win the AL MVP award. Simply put, this is too good of a number to pass up.

Rodríguez was one of the more popular AL MVP bets last year at 10/1, but failed to live up to those lofty expectations due to a mixture of bad luck and injuries. His expected slugging percentage (.463) compared to his actual slugging percentage (.409) marked the third-largest gap among qualified hitters in 2024.

But Rodríguez, 24, still has tremendous upside. He finished fourth in the 2023 MVP race after besting Bobby Witt Jr. (last year’s MVP runner-up) in the 2022 AL Rookie of the Year competition.

Rodríguez can generate plenty of WAR (a stat that typically determines the MVP race) between his glove and bat. In fact, OOPSY projects Rodríguez to have the fourth-highest WAR in the AL this season behind Aaron Judge, Witt, and Gunnar Henderson.

All three of those players have the best odds to win AL MVP, trading between +300 and +600.

I’m buying the discount on a talented player. This price tag won’t be available come opening day.
